Spent time doing some research today on the upcoming Healthcare (really, Wealthcare) bill coming up for vote. Compiled a list of sources (in order I’d recommend) to read if you can get some time. It’s especially critical should you or someone you know reside in a ‘swing’ state such as AZ where your voice can really make a difference!
Since this is a stroke blog, I wanted to outline a number of aspects that likely will in some way affect all stroke survivors or anyone with chronic health concerns.
My Stroke & Epilepsy would very likely be considered pre-existing conditions, under attack by the bill.
Pre-existing conditions are still protected under the BCRA, but states may be able to redefine essential benefits. In effect consumers are not nearly as protected as under the ACA.
Also much talk of leaving the door open to ‘Lifetime caps‘ being able to allow insurers to reinstate or create the limits. Consider I was just 44 years old when I had my stroke. Not knowing how long I will live needing additional insurance, a lifetime cap will severely affect me, e.g., my life-saving Epilepsy drugs are not only subject to pre-existing, what happens when I hit the lifetime cap?
Well, there are LOTS of things to read and educate yourself on with this! Please do!
What started me off thinking I needed to write this post was a number of great episodes of ‘Pod Save America‘ (episodes 6.20.17 & on deal with).

It’s important for those of you that live in states with Republican senators, if you care to voice your opinion, please call and leave a message for your Senator. Constituents of these states have the ability to swing the vote!
I have family in AZ, so listing their contact info below.
